The emphasis on disenfranchised men is unique to our area.  There is a home for abused women and there is another nonprofit that is working on a home for single moms, but there is nothing in our city and county like this for disenfranchised men.

Franklin Community House is a unique program on several different levels. The house, itself, is a joint project between Franklin Community Development and Community Housing Partnership of Williamson County.  Community Housing Partnership of Williamson County will purchase the home and Franklin Community Development will rehab the home and then operate and manage the home.

The partnerships with other nonprofit organizations to handle the programming is unique.  Some of the nonprofits involved are the: 21st Drug Court, One Generation Away, Educare Counseling Center, Jobs for Life, Literacy Council of Williamson County, Habitat for Humanity, Hard Bargain Association, and the Williamson County Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, Inc.
Franklin Community House is unique in its broad support from the faith community. A partial list of churches supporting Franklin Community House are Franklin Community Church, Crosspoint Community Church, St. Paul Episcopal Church, Franklin First United Methodist Church, Strong Tower Bible Church, West Harpeth Primitive Baptist Church, Nashville Family Church, and First Missionary Baptist Church.

THE MISSION AND VISION OF FRANKLIN COMMUNITY HOUSE IS TO OFFER AFFORDABLE HOUSING, EMERGENCY HOUSING, TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND A HOME FOR DISENFRANCHISED MEN. IT IS OUR DESIRE TO SEE LIVES TRANSFORMED THROUGH:

H.O.P.E.

H - Housing

Franklin Community House will have four apartments. Three apartments will be one bedroom-apartments and one apartment will be a two-bedroom apartment. Three apartments will be rented out at an affordable rate for low-income families. One apartment will be furnished and set aside for families needing short-term emergency housing at no charge. In addition to the apartments, the main house (approximately 2,500 square feet) will be home for up to 12 disenfranchised men from our community who are in programs, freeing themselves from addictions and harmful behaviors, empowering them to become contributing members of society.

Finally, one large room in the back of the home will be set-aside for disenfranchised men to stay during extreme weather conditions.

O - Occupational Training

By partnering with other non-profits, Franklin Community House will offer job training and individual mentoring, helping residents find livable wage jobs, empowering them to be contributing members of society:
  • Successfully dealing with addictions.
  • Being responsible for paying court fines and being current in all court fines.
  • Being faithful in paying child support.
  • Becoming educated and employed at a livable wage job.
  • Obtaining one’s own transportation.
  • Giving back to the community through community service.
  • Moving toward self-sufficiency.
  • Anger-management.
  • Home-ownership.

P - Prison Release & Reorientation

It is envisioned that some of the disenfranchised men living in the home will be men who have been recently released from the Williamson County Jail. Franklin Community House will be a welcoming and safe place for them to come and begin the integration process back into the community, empowering them to be contributing members of society.

E - Education

By partnering with other non-profits, Franklin Community House will be able to assist men obtain their GED/HSED. Furthermore, the men in the home will be assisted in writing their resumes, obtaining their drivers license, getting their felonies expunged, and filling out forms to attend college or vocational schools.
